The History of the French fry
The Potato fought a long and hard battle for acceptance. At first it was thought that the potato was poisonous as it was found to be in the same family as the belladonna. As well the Scottish found no mention of the potato in the bible and therefore deemed it unholy. One of the few countries that did in fact accept the potato and deemed it edible was the Irish.
Once the potato was finally accepted and enjoyed by many, the French fry emerged. The true origin of the French fry is still a hard fought debate between the French and the Belgians. The French claim it was one of their country men who was the originator of the delectable slices of potato, while the Belgians stand there ground claiming it was originated by a Belgian. So in fact the true origin of the French fry is a mystery. It is believed that the French fry made it's way to North America after the First World War with many of the soldiers who had served in Belgian and France.
